My home town for over 25 years.......

Slave Lake burned as night fell Sunday, the result of wildfires that first threatened then quickly took over...

As of Sunday night, the town hall was on fire, as were local businesses, the library, dozens of homes and even the radio station.

The town first issued an evacuation order Sunday evening, but with fires threatening the highways, they urged the roughly 7,000 residents to make their way to safe spots in the town. I don't live there anymore but lots of my friends do........the utter devastation is hard to believe.......

The Town Hall.......
This is the corner where the Tags corner store used to be.......with apartment buildings in the background.....turn the corner to the subdivision where my old home used to be.....
Here is what is left of the area of town......
This is the Southeast corner of Slave Lake....you can see the horrible devastation....
The fire is still raging out of control.....
My heart goes out to all my friends and all the residents of Slave Lake.
Be strong, there will be a town again...it just takes time....Slave Lake will be a community again...you can donate here through the Red Cross.....

Hi Margaret, I read this at work the first time today. We have had so many tragic things happening lately. It is so devasting. My heart goes out to all of those who have lost so much. We have family who are park rangers and they get involved in fighting wild fires. The latest one for them was the wild fires in Texas. I am taking a little me time before I go to bed. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Ours if the weatherman is right will be wet and cold. Take care Your Missouri Friend.

What a terrible spring it's been for so many people - fire or water have wrought such devastation.

Margaret, I am so sorry. I saw this on tv yesterday, and my heart just went out to this town. Between the floods and tornadoes here, and wildfires, too it sure makes you wonder what is going on in this world!
I pray for you and your friends...
